Mookie Betts made a triumphant return from injury, going 2-4 with 3RBIs and a HR. He also slotted back into RF where he has won Gold Gloves and MVP awards, although not a move that Betts is necessarily happy with. But at the end of the day, results are what they are, and if the change results in a WS, I’m sure nobody is going to be having sour grapes about it.
However, the larger point of potential contention seems to be Mookie’s move to second in the lineup instead of the lead off spot. Since taking over that spot, Shohei has been a beast (recent skid notwithstanding) enough so that Dave Roberts felt it was appropriate to keep Shohei there. Although it is not a demotion of any kind, there is room for people to feel some kind of way about the change.
Like Mookie is prone to do, he is keeping it professional and is supportive of the move, even if his tone might bely a less than full throated support of it. But he’s a competitor, I wouldn’t expect anything less. Dodger haters are going to poke holes and try to cause division, asking questions like “Whose team is it?”
But the Dodgers are above that. You can never have too many alphas on a baseball team where each at bat is a one-on-one battle against the pitcher, and the more dawgs you have can only be better. So people be putting stuff out there cuz they bored, or scared of what’s to come from this Dodgers lineup.
It’s only been 1 game, but early returns say that the switch is lineup is going to be devastating to the league.
