That blown call

I’m not going to lie, I am still heated about the missed call by third base umpire Harry Wendelstedt. I understand, games are not decided on one call. But come on, that was bull shit. You CANNOT make that call unreviewable, because that was pretty much the game right there. After that call, things fell apart very quickly for USA as Joe Kelly came in and blew the game open.

I believe that you can hold onto both of these thoughts or ideas:

• the Dodgers could / should have played better to win
• that blown call messed the entire game up for the Dodgers

I understand. There is hardly any sport where more review is inherently good for the game. But there are some obvious things that should be reviewable, especially in baseball. The adherence to keeping things sacred or maintaining the game how it has been is hurting the product on the field, and I think baseball needs to figure this out.

Looking ahead

The Dodgers are only sitting 3 games ahead of SD and AZ with 17 games left in the season. This is where learn about who the Dodgers are going to be as a team. We can use every excuse in the books as far as injuries are related and we wouldn’t be wrong. But nobody is going to care about that. Dodgers have to dig deep and perform like the team that we all know we can be.
